Member portal

SOS Barnbyar wanted to create a platform where their givers could get an overview of donations as well as engagements. They wanted it to feel personal when the givers are viewing the child or village they are supporting, creating a sense of connection to their engagement rather than just seeing a donated amount.

Project Overview

The project was conducted during the fall of 2023, where I spent two days a week at the SOS Barnbyar office, collaborating with the Project Manager and the Developer Team.

Focus Areas

How can SOS Barnbyar be transparent with their givers while also making them feel inspired and proud?

How can we create trust?

What functionality does the Member portal need to include to ease the workload from the Support (Customer service) team?

Research

SOS Barnbyar had previously conducted research through surveys. The survey mapped out different types of givers and what their motivations for giving were. These motivations were divided into categories such as “solidarity”, “heritage” and “emotional drivers”.

SOS Barnbyar also had a CX model describing desired feelings that they wanted the users to feel when being in contact with them.

This model and the previous research was the foundation for the design work.

Design Process

Gathering user & business requirements

To understand the business- and user needs we conducted internal brainstorming workshops with different teams within SOS Barnbyar (lead by the PM).

We also had interviews with members of relevant teams within the SOS B. organisation (led by me).
For example with members of the support team that had great knowledge of what kind of issues their givers usually called in about.

Validating user needs and technical
requirements

There was continual collaboration with the developer team to ensure that the design solutions did not go outside the technical possibilities.

We also had design review sessions with the internal teams at SOS Barnbyar to ensure that the solutions I designed would meet their needs and the needs of the givers.

When navigation, content and other parts of the design needed validation user testing was conducted.

Designing in Figma & handing over to developers

Figma was used as the main design tool. A “ready for dev”-page in Figma was used to create a smooth hand-off process. This worked well since I usually sat in the same room as the developers and could discuss any questions they had.
